Yumi Nakata’s practice is driven by a desire to generate alternative ways of seeing from private, closed images. She begins by creating digital collages from the vast number of personal photographs accumulated through everyday life. These collages are then dramatically enlarged on a computer screen, where she repeatedly captures new screenshots. From this semi-automated process emerges a collection of images that is, in itself, almost devoid of meaning. By deliberately selecting, arranging, and translating these images into paint, Nakata separates the original significance of the source imagery from the tactile presence of the painted surface, creating works in which multiple modes of vision unfold simultaneously.


中田はプライベートな閉じた図像から何か別の視覚を生産したいという欲求に基づき制作をしています。
まず日常で膨大に撮影された私写真からデジタルコラージュ画像を作り出し、その画像をPCウインドウ上で極端に拡大したスクリーンショットを再度たくさん撮影します。それらの半自動の作業からできた半ば無意味な画像群を、再度作者の意思で配置し描画することで、元の図像の意味と絵の筆触が切り離されながら、複数の視覚が同時に展開するような絵の外観を目指しています。
